A Yoga Day Retreat for Perinatal Professionals

Care & connection for you

… to spread to your clients… to uplift your community

Through time-honoured yogic principles and practices, you will be guided on a journey to:

  • Realign with your purpose & intuition as a perinatal professional

  • Address burnout, frustration & disillusionment

  • Learn missing links of support amidst a broken system

  • Build community and bring social change into your work

Who is this retreat suitable for?

Anyone who undertakes work as a maternal care or support worker, or who is studying* or planning to enter into the perinatal (prenatal and postnatal) field.

*student discounts will be available!

This could include, but is not limited to:

Doulas, Midwives, Lactation Consultants, Physiotherapists, Yoga Teachers, Chiropractors, Osteopaths, Exercise Physiologists, Acupuncturists, Naturopaths, Nutritionists, Obstetricians, Psychologists, Counsellors, Coaches, Birthing Educators, Pospartum Chefs, and more…

It’s important to know:

  • you don’t need to be a yoga teacher or do yoga, or have ever done yoga

  • you don’t need to be fit or flexible

… there will be yoga postures included (as well as many of the other facets of yoga), but there are accessible options for every-body.

This would be perfect for you if:

  • you have a relatively new business that supports perinatal people, or you are planning to start one

  • you are feeling burnt out, undervalued, overwhelmed, frustrated or disillusioned in your current work

  • you are finding yourself second guessing, lacking trust or feeling ‘not good enough’

  • your mind is always racing and you feel that you don’t have time for self-care, to process work experiences, to plan/prepare for your work

  • you feel stuck in your work, or you have been putting off taking the next steps forward

  • you are looking to bring a fresh spark or a different perspective into your work and offerings

  • you enjoy yoga or are interested to learn more about it and how it can be relevant to perinatal care

  • you wish to have a more community-minded and collaborative approach to your work or care

What will I learn on this retreat?

During this retreat, you will experience yoga practices across the breadth of the yogic tradition:

  • exploration of your values and deepest truths as a person and as a care provider

  • exploration of your current and desired states of being

  • postural exercises

  • breathwork

  • mindfulness and concentration practices

  • meditation and journalling

  • mudra & mantra

  • explorations of sound & metaphysics

  • other harmonising practices

We will explore connection and care through the model of the 5 Koshas - yoga’s comprehensive and expanded version of the Biopsychosocial Model of care:

  • physical, mental and energetic wellbeing

  • fostering parenting and caregiver intuition

  • celebrating the journey and experience of stepping into the role of mother/parent (matrescence)

  • returning to self-sovereignty in your roles as a caregiver and leader in order to allow your clients to reclaim their own self-sovereigty

  • Your roles and identities and how your relationship with these shapes you and your work in the world

  • Overthinking and overanalysing in the prenatal and postnatal period and how this can affect outcomes

  • Respecting and exploring the wisdom of your teachers and your lineage

  • Reciprocity and inclusivity in the perinatal period

It is our goal that after this retreat, you will feel:

  • Less tension in your body

  • More space and ease in your breath

  • Less compulsion to do and more capacity to be in the present moment

  • A shift in your experience of time and the present moment

  • More connected: to Self, to those you care for and to your community (or the community you wish to build)

  • More connected and aligned to your purpose and passion as a perinatal professional

  • More connected to your innate intuition and wisdom through connection to your lineage, teachers and inner Self

  • More confident in your ability to step into leadership

  • More committed to reciprocity and inclusivity

What has yoga got to do with being a Perinatal Professional?

The word yoga comes from the sanskrit word ‘yuj’ which means ‘to yolk’ or ‘to unite’.

The purpose of yoga is to move from separation towards connection.

The perinatal profession is all about fostering connection - parents connecting with their unborn or newborn child/ren, and their care-providers facilitating this connection and transition.

What we see in the birth world today are so many issues that create separation. Yoga can be an antidote to separation simply in its very purpose of creating connection.

The 5 Koshas (Beyond the Biopsychosocial Model of Care)

Comprehensive individualised and inclusive perinatal care can take an approach even beyond biopsychosocial considerations.

The missing considerations include energetic wellbeing, fostering parenting and caregiver intuition and celebrating the journey and experience of stepping into the role of mother/parent/caregiver.

How does this retreat add value?

The 5 Koshas offers a model of care beyond the biopsychosocial, that is inclusive of the caregiver, the person being cared for and their context within the greater community.

You may already make consideration of the physical, social and emotional needs of those you serve, but we are offering you a model of care that is even more expansive and that can support you just as much as your clients and your community.
